At Pretty Empire Co., our jewelry is offered in different materials so you can choose the look, quality, and price point that works best for you. Because each material is made differently, prices and care requirements may vary from piece to piece.

Gold-Plated Copper

Gold-plated copper jewelry features a thin layer of gold color applied over a copper base. These pieces are typically our most affordable option and are best for occasional wear.

Because copper and traditional plating can react to moisture, sweat, lotions, and perfumes, these pieces require extra care. Remove them before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping, and store them in a dry place when they are not being worn.

Gold-Plated Stainless Steel

Stainless steel jewelry offers greater durability and resistance to everyday wear than copper-based pieces. It holds its shape well, is less likely to discolor, and requires less maintenance.

Many of our newer pieces are made with gold-plated or PVD-coated stainless steel because it provides a more durable finish while keeping the jewelry accessible and affordable. Proper care will still help preserve the gold color and shine.

Gold-Filled Jewelry

Gold-filled jewelry is made with a thicker layer of real gold bonded to a durable base metal. It offers the look and feel of gold at a more accessible price than solid gold and generally lasts much longer than standard gold plating when cared for properly.

Because gold-filled pieces contain more gold and require a more involved manufacturing process, they are priced higher than our plated jewelry.

Our Quality Transition

Pretty Empire Co. began by offering a range of materials at different price points. As our brand grows, we are intentionally transitioning toward a collection made primarily from stainless steel and gold-filled jewelry.

This transition allows us to provide pieces that are more durable, easier to care for, and better suited for repeated wear. During this process, you may still see select gold-plated copper pieces available at lower prices.
